I'm not expecting professional legal advice and won't hold any answers accountable, but does anyone have advice on actions that can be taken if someone is ripping off your blog? I don't mean literally plagiarizing your articles, but copying your name, themes and VERY similar content, and even using your catchphrases etc.
Obviously, we could hire a lawyer but we don't have the money for that. We are going to approach them and request they stop personally but beyond that does anyone have any suggestions?
Having this other blogger ripping us off is causing huge brand confusion so much that people are tagging the wrong account when featuring our work.
Any thoughts are appreciated if anyone has been through this!
eah, honestly, those are different enough where no way you’d win a legal fight anyway, if you wanted to go that route.
I mean, you both mention rum and islands (an obvious connection) and reference one of the more popular movie franchises around. I think that’s a real tough sell for plagiarism.
Another issue would be, do you have your site copyrighted anyway?
That's tough...it sucks to put in a bunch of work to develop a strong presence only to have sudden competition/confusion with someone who started pretty recently.
I think I've found your blog and the blog with similar content - although the similarities aren't so close that I would think this person is copying, so I could be wrong. Without trademarked materials I'm not sure what can be done, other than making it extremely clear to the companies you work with what tags and collateral they need to use. Have you approached the blogger yet? Have they been responsive?
